"DC3 LS, will be perpetually replacing cars until the end of time" (dc3ls-)

So the U.S. government has just passed a law (hypothetically). That allows each manufacturer to make and produce one “legacy” car. This legacy car can be any model, still in production or not, of any year without having to meet modern emissions, safety, etc. Also because it’s the glorious year of 2016, the company producing the car can update the car a little if you like. Either to fix a common issue it had, more power, or just minor stuff to make it more modern if you want.
Personally I’d say the Honda CRX Si. Largely because there legally can’t be anything like it on the road to day. You can push into prius territory economy wise if you’re easy on it and it’s a real hoot to drive. What’s not to love about it?Other than needing to come to grips with your early bird appointment with the grim reaper if you get into a fender bender with a modern Ford Fiesta? The only update I’d want for it is an OBD II port just to make it easier to troubleshoot.
Anyway, what cars would y’all like to see come back?
PS Also it doesn’t seem this posted the first time, but maybe it was just like that for me. So sorry if this is a repost.

I’m gonna put it in the comments to make it more obvious.
I apologize if this is a repost. It was being weird the first time and I didn’t know if it posted or it was just my end that was messed up. So I gave it some time and tried again.

e30 M3 Sport Evolution. Maybe give the engine a once-over to bump its HP over 100hp/L and put a 6-speed in it, but otherwise leave it alone.

An Echo XRS hatchback with the 2ZZ-GE. 180 hp, 8200 rpm in a 2000-lb car and with a sunroof. Of course, the new Echo would also get updated base engines like the 1NR (replacement for the 1NZ, making about the same 105 hp from 1.5L) and 1ZR (1.6L, 130 hp, for an Echo RS) available, and bring a diesel over here, too.
Even though the 3rd-gen Camry is an awesome car, the best car ever made, the 2ZZ Echo would be more fun and economical. But for all the Echo-haters out there, an alternate would be the 3rd-gen Camry with different engine options. Base engine would be the 5S-FE, with options being the 3S-GE and 3S-GTE. Screw the impossible-to-work-on transverse V6 engines! The ES200 (instead of ES300, since we’re dropping the 3VZ and 1MZ) would have slightly more power from its engines than the standard Toyota versions.
If Suzuki was still around, then my answer would be the Aerio but with a sunroof option, and keeping the original awesome digital dash (they took it away midway thru the production cycle)
Nissan’s entry would be the 4th gen Maxima, but instead of the lame-ass transverse V6, it would have the SR20DET, electronics that actually work (no more ignition switch, TPS, and knock sensor failures!), and rust-proofing! (especially on the radiator support) Yeah I know some of you would say the Silvia/240SX or the 300ZX, (where a V6 like the VQ would be more acceptable due to being longitudinal and easier access), but the Maxima is *the* 4-door sports car :p
Ford’s legacy car would be the 70s German Capri. Base engine would be the 160-hp base Focus engine, with the ST/RS turbo versions available. Fun RWD sports car thing that’s smaller, lighter, and better-handling than any Mustang.
Hyundai’s legacy car would be the Pony, both to remind everyone (including themselves) how far they’ve come, and because a light lil RWD 4-door hatch is awesome!

I’d bring back the 1995-1996 Toyota Camry in sedan, coupe, and wagon variants. I would upgrade the taillights (or at least the CHMSL) to LED units, and I would unite the front parking lights and headlights into a single housing. (But the front turn signals would still be mounted in the bumper. I mean, obviously.)

great engine, but impossible to get to the back of it! Plus most of the electronic engine mangagement shit SUCKS! The TPS, knock sensor, MAF, ignition switch, a bunch of things that aren’t regular maintenance items in any other non-European car. I hate transverse V6's.
But if you have to keep teh VQ, then why not upgrade to the newest VQ37? ;)
Or at least give it the MEVI, if you want to keep it closer to original but with some improvements.

GM: 80's monty carlo SS body on modern platform. 3.6 V6 base, LT1 for v8.
Ford: 99 lincoln Mark body on current muatang. Same options as Mustang but $15 grand higher price because its ford and thats how they roll.
Chrysler: Omni GLHS, dont change a damn thing! Well maybe less rust prone bodies.
BMW: E90 M3. Change nothing
Benz: 1998 420, i dont care what they do, just make a new car called the 420 again. Add maybe built in vaporizor..
Vw: new thing!!
Ferrari: 599 GTB for life!
Lamborgini: eh, dont car
Jaguar: xj8 but add quailty control
Volvo: 850r but add AWD and moar power!
Toyota: anything so long as its RWD and they bring back the 2jz, also the 2zz.
Honda: meh, dont care
Nissan: 300zx, 240sx and datsun 510
Mitsubishi: dont they still make 15 year old cars?? But yeah i dont care
Suzuki: just come back and bring a new sx4 with you!
Alfa Romeo: GTV6!

As much as I don’t want to be that guy who posts his own car. Maybe it’s not the most interesting choice. But the second-gen MR2 would be a hoot. I’d love to have a fresh one of those. There’s nothing close to it on the market right now - though that likely means not a lot of people would buy it.
I think the CR-Z is probably closer to the CRX than you imagine. I hate it, but it’s economical and I’m sure it steers well...that’s really all the CRX had going for it, is it not?

You couldn’t build something like it nowadays because of safety regulations, but imagine the FIAT 126 with an updated, modern engine like FIAT’s 0.9L Turbo TwinAir with 105hp (compared to it’s original 24hp), or even a modern bike-style motor.
Or, update the original engine! OHC or some variation of vs. it’s original pushrods...EFI vs. Carbed, larger displacement vs the original 652cc...even a little more power helps in a car so light. :)
Modern rustproofing and better quality metals mean they’d last much longer!!! The leaf springs could be replaced with something more modern...LED lighting to make the most of the power from the tiny alternator...a more cushy interior, airbags (for what they’d be worth!), a modern LCD instrument panel for more info than just a few idiot lights and a speedo/fuel gauge only...the list goes on! :D
That being said....it would lose the charm if all of that were done to it. I’ll take one of the originals please....just give it to me with modern metals and rustproofing for durability, otherwise, I’m fine with it! :P

Huh, I always assumed the CR-Z must’ve been really heavy because of the hybrid system, but I just looked it up and it’s about 2,600 lbs which really isn’t that much more. I’ll definitely be looking into this in the near future!
Edit: Make that very near future I had no idea how much these have depreciated! https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-for-sale/listings/honda/cr-z

Yeah, but the parts that aren’t interchangeable between model years are the ones that always break on you... Do you have any idea how many signal indicator switch designs they produced?! I’ve seen different ones on the same model & year of their vehicles!
